Dr. Ashraf Esmail

Dr. Ashraf Esmail Head ShotAshraf Esmail received a BA in Sociology from Louisiana State University. He received a MA in   Sociology from Georgia State University. He completed 60 graduate hours at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. His Ph.D. is in Sociology and Educational Leadership and Administration with a minor in Criminal Justice from the Union Institute and University. 

 

He has an active research agenda and extensive experience in Interdisciplinary research with focus areas in Sociology, Criminal Justice, and Educational Leadership. He has published articles and books in these areas including Youth Violence in American Schools: How Can it Be Alleviated, “Oh, It’s like CSI.” Qualitative Study of Job Satisfaction Experiences of Forensic Scientists, Racial Disparity in Sentencing Outcomes: A Study of Sentencing Decisions Under Arizona’s Perspective Sentencing Structure, Internet Identity Theft: An Insight into Victimology and Law Enforcement Response, Professional Development in Community Corrections: A Case Study, A Critical Assessment of Technical Violations in Criminal Justice: A Probationer’s Perspective, Gun Violence in American Society: Crime, Justice, and Public Policy, The Devastating Impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on Health and Education: Voice of the Children, The Use of Instructional Technology in Dealing with Disasters: How Universities Used IT During Hurricane Katrina, Making Math Learning Fun for Inner City School Students, Charter Schools: Answering the Call; Saving Our Children, Perceptions of Developing Cultural Awareness of First Level High School Arabic Language Learners, and Alleviating Bullying: Conquering the Challenge of Violent Crimes and Perspectives on Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice in Educational Leadership published through Rowman and Littlefield Education.

 

In addition to his research and teaching experience, Dr. Esmail has worked and presented at conferences at the national, regional, and university levels since early graduate school. He has organized, presided and presented at conferences including  Annual Meetings of the Society of Criminology, Midwest Criminal Justice Association, Annual Meetings of the Society of Criminology, Race, Gender, Class, Midwest Sociological Society, the National Association for Multicultural Education and the National Association for Peace Education. He has served as President of the National Association for Peace Education from 2010 and 2011, and currently serves as senior editor for the Journal of Education and Social Justice and International Journal of Leadership, Education, and Business Studies.  Dr. Esmail is a State Commissioner for the Louisiana Justice Commission and serves on the Board of Directors for Louisiana Collation for Offender Resources.
