About Dr. Abdalla Darwish

Since 1998, Dr. Abdalla Darwish has worked tirelessly at Dillard University to elevate our physics program and recruit female minority students in physics and optics. For his achievements, he has been named Dillard University’s first Presidential Professor in 2014, HBCU Digest’s Male Faculty Member of the Year in 2017, a Ruth Simmons University Distinguished Professor, and an International Society of Optics and Photonics “SPIE” Fellow, among many other honors and awards. More than $17 million in grant funds have been awarded to Dr. Darwish to establish various programs and research projects in physics and the School of STEM at Dillard. He is an expert in thin film fabrication using the pulse laser deposition (PLD) and Matrix Assisted Pulsed Laser evaporation (MAPLE) techniques as well as the inventor of the double and triple PLD concurrent MAPLE thin film fabrication techniques.
