College of Business Schools and Majors

The College of Business is an academic unit of Dillard University and is administered by the Dean with the support of two chairpersons, faculty and staff. The college offers a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program to students with varying and diverse academic backgrounds to meet the challenges of the business, public and international communities. The program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded educational experience that is grounded in the liberal arts tradition, as well as in the study of business. The purpose of the curriculum is to develop graduates who will be responsible citizens prepared to play key leadership roles in a global business environment.

 

The College of Business confers the following degrees:

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting
  • Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – International Business Concentration
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Management Concentration
  • Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Marketing Concentration

 

The College of Business is organized into two schools: the School of Accounting and Financial Economics and the School of Business Administration.  

 

School of Accounting and Financial Economics

 

The School of Accounting and Financial Economics provides quality education to students who want to major in accounting or financial economics. The school prepares students majoring in Accounting for careers in public, corporate, and not-for-profit accounting organizations that demand a high level of accounting professionalism. The school also provides quality education to students majoring in Financial Economics for careers in professional fields of economics or finance. In addition, it prepares students for graduate, professional and advanced studies in accounting, economics, finance and other related fields of study.

School of Business Administration

 

The School of Business Administration provides quality education to students majoring in Business Administration. These students receive a broad-based business education that prepares them for entrepreneurship and careers in international business, management or marketing. While Business Administration is the major for all students in the school, students must select a concentration in either International Business, Management or Marketing. This curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid foundation of business knowledge that will allow them to compete effectively in a global business environment.

Student Learning Outcomes

 

Attention to student learning and success facilitate the fulfillment of the University’s mission. To that end, the College of Business has established student learning outcomes for each of its programs. Our student learning outcomes are aligned with the mission of the College of Business, which is aligned with the university mission. These learning outcomes have been established at the college-level, as well as the program-level. This allows for more meaningful discussion, analysis, and decision-making. The college-level outcomes are applicable to graduates of all programs in the College of Business. In addition, each degree program has specific program learning outcomes to be achieved by graduates from a given program.  The learning outcomes are as follows:

 

College of Business Learning Outcomes

 

Upon completion of a degree program from the College of Business, all graduates will be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate critical job success skills necessary to secure and keep employment in business, industry, and government.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of core business concepts necessary to succeed in a global society.

 

The following outcomes are in addition to the above college-level outcomes and are related to the specific degree program in which the student is enrolled.  

 

Accounting Learning Outcomes

 

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Accounting, graduates will be able to:

 

  • Apply accounting concepts and methods to interpret financial statements for evaluating the financial position and performance of organizations.
  • Prepare, interpret and analyze accounting information for internal control, planning, performance evaluation, and coordination to continuously improve business processes.
  • Prepare and deliver professional and effective business presentations which incorporate appropriate technologies.

 

Financial Economics Learning Outcomes

 

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Financial Economics, graduates will be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate and apply basic finance and investment concepts.
  • Demonstrate and apply basic knowledge of financial economics.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of economics and its role in public, private and nonprofit organizations.

 

Business Administration – International Business Learning Outcomes

 

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – International Business Concentration, graduates will be able to:

 

  • Discuss the cultural impact on international business and recommend ways to do business in the global marketplace.
  • Apply relevant skills to identify ethical and social responsibility problems and propose appropriate solutions.

 

Business Administration – Management Learning Outcomes

 

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Management Concentration, graduates will be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate and apply basic knowledge of the functions of management - planning, organizing, leading and controlling.
  • Demonstrate the skills to identify entrepreneurial opportunities and the motivation to pursue them.

 

Business Administration – Marketing Learning Outcomes

 

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration – Marketing Concentration, graduates will be able to:

 

  • Demonstrate and apply marketing mix variables - product, distribution, promotion and price.
  • Prepare and deliver professional and effective business presentations which incorporate appropriate technologies.
