NEW ORLEANS – Through a partnership between the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference and WGNO television,
the annual Bleu Devil Classic matchup between the Dillard University and Xavier University
men’s basketball teams will be broadcast live on WNOL-TV, NOLA 38.
The game takes place on Saturday, February 18, on The Battlefield at Dent Hall on the campus of Dillard University, and will top off at 4:30 p.m.
Dillard, currently ranked 11th in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division I Coaches’ Poll, will be looking to sweep the rival Gold Rush in the regular season for the first time since the 2000-2001 season.
The Bleu Devils won at Xavier in the Crosstown Classic on Jan. 28, 104-71. Dillard’s 33-point margin of victory was the largest by any team in the series since Dillard won 116-75 on Feb. 15, 1969.
“This is a great opportunity for basketball fans throughout the New Orleans area to see just how intense the rivalry is between Dillard and Xavier,” said Dillard Athletic Director Dr. Kiki Baker Barnes. “We’re excited that the GCAC has chosen this game to put both our conference and our university in the spotlight. We’re confident that our team will put on a great show for everyone in attendance and for everyone watching at home. There’s no place like The Battlefield on game day.”
The men’s game will be preceded by the second matchup of the season between the Dillard and Xavier women’s teams. The Gold Nuggets topped the Lady Bleu Devils 68-66 on a buzzer beating three-pointer. That game tips off at 2:00 p.m.
