Dillard University Ray Charles Program Set To Host Chef Syrena Johnson

NEW ORLEANS – Syrena Johnson, a native New Orleanian and chef, will serve as the next Dr. Rudy Joseph Lombard: Black Hand in the Pot lecturer on Thursday, September 7, 2017. Johnson is a graduate of Liberty’s Kitchen culinary program, and a recipient of Chefs Move! The John Besh and Bride Mayor Scholarship, and is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute. She also appeared on a ABC News special (2015) about the “Katrina: 10 Years After the Storm” with Robin Roberts.
WHO: Johnson is a leading advocate and rising chef for young people in the culinary industry. She has cooked alongside John Besh in London and also returned to Liberty’s Kitchen as a chef instructor.
WHAT: Johnson will conduct a cooking demo and lecture about her journey from a fast food worker after Hurricane Katrina to chef stardom.
