NEW ORLEANS— State Sen. Wesley Bishop, will deliver the keynote speech at Dillard University’s annual Honors Convocation that is set for Tuesday, March 28, at 10:30 a.m., in Lawless Memorial Chapel, 2601 Gentilly Blvd. The convocation is open to the public and approximately 200 students will be recognized.
Honors Convocation was established to celebrate academic excellence for all students on the Dean’s List, a 3.5 or above term GPA, during the Spring and/or Fall 2016 semesters. This event provides an opportunity for students to share their academic achievement with peers, family and friends.
“This ceremony heralds our students for their commitment to exemplary scholarly pursuit and State Senator Bishop will discuss the critical need for our honor students to use their academic and leadership abilities to communicate a positive narrative across local, regional and national spaces,” said Dr. Nia Woods Haydel, director, Academic Center for Excellence, Dillard University.
Chosen by EBONY magazine as one of the Top 30 Young Leaders in the Nation, State Sen. Bishop represents a new generation of political leadership that is focused on charting a progressive course of action for his community.
Sen. Bishop was elected, in a wide margin, in October 2015 to represent Louisiana’s 4th Senatorial District. He serves on a number of committees, some include Finance, Labor, and Judiciary and he is Vice Chair of the Senate & Governmental Affairs committee.
A native of the lower ninth ward in New Orleans, Sen. Bishop currently serves as Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs/Dean, School of Graduate Studies and Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Southern University at New Orleans. He is also a practicing attorney and
