The motto of the Daniel C. Thompson/Samuel DuBois Cook Honors Program is “Non scholae sed vitae discimus” – “Learn not for school, but for life.” This philosophical basis declares the program’s dual commitment to nurturing the intellectual potential of motivated students and providing a moral and ethical framework for responsible social activism. Since the program’s inception in 1978, it has encouraged undergraduate research, student leadership initiatives, and innovative teaching models in a multicultural, global context. Participants travel to conferences and seminars, work closely with faculty, and gain a competitive edge toward internships, graduate study and employment.
