|2012 Pre-Commencement Concert|
Legendary R&B group the Chi-Lites will headline Dillard University’s Pre-Commencement Concert on the evening of May 3. The concert will be held at 8 p.m. on the Avenue of the Oaks on Dillard’s campus, two days before the class of 2012 graduates. The Dillard University Concert Choir will open the show. All proceeds will go to benefit Dillard student scholarships.
One of the preeminent soul vocal groups of the 1970s,The Chi-Lites have been touring and recording for over 50 years. They scored a string of hits in the 1970s, including “Oh Girl” and “Have You Seen Her,” which have remained radio staples to this day. The Chi-Lites have scored more than 10 chart-topping hits throughout a career that has spanned more than half a century. Today the Chi-Lites are led by Marshall Thompson, who founded the group in Chicago in 1959. Younger listeners may recognize “Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So),” which was sampled on the Beyoncé Knowles hit “Crazy In Love.”
The Dillard University Concert Choir has enjoyed an exciting school year that featured a performance at the White House and a spring tour with shows in New York, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.
