Career and Professional Development PDF Print E-mail

The Center for Career and Professional Development supports the holistic development of students by guiding them through the career and professional development process in an effort to prepare them for entry into graduate or professional schools, as well as into the global marketplace. Our goal is to assist every student to develop values and establish career and life goals.

Each student beginning in their first year is guided through a four-phase process that takes them from the beginning stages of choosing a major and adjusting to college life to the world of work and life after Dillard.

Awareness
In the first year, students become aware of their values, skills and interests. Tentative career goals and objectives are established.

Exploration
In the second year, students explore their career goals and devise a plan of action to achieve their desired career goals.

Formation
In the third year, students formulate and finalize their career plan through internships, fellowships and other career enhancement opportunities.

Integration
In the forth year, students integrate the three previous phases to obtain their desired goals

You have come a long way in finding your place in this world, but the journey is just beginning. Begin your journey at Dillard University by committing yourself to academic excellence and “career readiness”.

Given the fact that career development is an integral component of your Dillard educational experience, The Center for Career and Professional Development will assist you in identifying and navigating your career path. Our services are designed to assist you in making the tough decisions regarding major and career choice and because these decisions affect the rest of your life, you do not want to make the decisions alone. Allow us to assist you. The first step is to take a career assessment and meet with a Career Services Specialist to discuss the results. This service along with many others will enhance your ability to make sound academic and career choices and to help you attain the career goal you have identified. We are here to aid you in the career development process; you are not alone.

We are here to assist in your career planning. As a Dillard student you can expect to participate in cutting-edge professional development experiences to ensure your marketability in the global marketplace as well as admission to the best graduate and professional schools. For example, you will learn interviewing methods, techniques for successful career networking and participate in internships aimed at enhancing your career readiness.

Dillard University graduates occupy unique career positions throughout the world and are enrolled in graduate and professional schools throughout the country. We expect you to build on this tradition by providing you the tools necessary to be “career ready”. While the process of career preparation involves sequential passages, you will have the opportunity to asses the fit between your evolving career goals and the realities of the world of work.
