Dear FWS Students:
As we have completed mid-terms, I write to remind you of an important matter regarding your work study. After a review of the work study program overall for the University, we have discovered that you are not working your full potential this semester. Please make sure you are working your maximum hours. This is funding that we have awarded you to help defray your educational costs or earn some spending money.
While I know your academics come first, statistics show that those students who work at least 15-20 hours a week perform better in the classroom as it allows and encourages good time management skills.
So please get with your supervisor and make sure you are working all you can within the rules of the work study program, meaning NOT working during scheduled class times. We do not want to send money back to the Department of Education because students are not working and earning the wages we have afforded them. If we begin a pattern of sending money back, then the Department of Education will begin to decrease our level of funding.
As a way of showing commitment to the program, I have secured approval to give work study students a pay increase. Effective with the payroll for February, which will be paid on March 13, 2015, the new rate of pay for student workers will jump to $8.50 per hour. I hope you take advantage of this change.
If there are any questions regarding the program, please feel free to contact Ms. Lockett.
