Dillard University Institutional Awards:

Scholarships and Grants

Dillard University offers a competitive Scholarship/Grant Package to eligible first-year students who demonstrated strong academic performance in high school. The primary criterion used to determine a student’s eligibility is based on a calculation and an evaluation of the students’ ACT/SAT score and Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA). However, in one or more of the scholarship and/or grant awards, there are other components that can factor into the student’s eligibility which includes: State of Residence, Housing (on-campus vs. off campus), and other Resources (Grant/Scholarships) the student may be receiving.

Merit Base:

The Merit base scholarships are awarded to eligible new students who are recent high school graduates (graduating the May or December prior to the start of the academic year that the student is entering college). Eligible recipients will receive a Scholarship Award Letter which will list the requirements for each specified award. A general overview of the award criteria is:

University Scholar: This scholarship is awarded on an academic year basis and is effective for eight consecutive semesters (summer, study abroad and the evening program do not qualify). Students must meet the renewal criteria to maintain eligibility. This honor entities the recipient to tuition, and on campus room and board. If the student decides to live off-campus, this scholarship award will then cover Tuition ONLY. The recipient must enroll as a full-time student. The scholarship pays for a maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.

Renewal: Student must maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA calculated at the end of each spring semester (term), and earn at least 24 semester hours at the end of the academic year.

Presidential Scholar: This scholarship is awarded on an academic year basis and is effective for eight consecutive semesters (summer, study abroad and the evening program do not qualify). Students must meet the renewal criteria to maintain eligibility. This honor entities the recipient to full Tuition.   The recipient must enroll as a full-time student. The scholarship pays for a maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.

Renewal: Student must maintain a cumulative 3.2 GPA calculated at the end of each spring semester (term), and earn at least 24 semester hours at the end of the academic year.


Dean’s Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded on an academic year basis and is effective for eight consecutive semesters (summer, study abroad and the evening program do not qualify). Students must meet the renewal criteria to maintain eligibility. This honor entitles the recipient to receive $7,500 a year. The recipient must enroll as a full-time student. The scholarship pays for a maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.

Renewal: Student must maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA calculated at the end of each spring semester (term), and earn at least 24 semester hours at the end of the academic year.

Merit Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded on an academic year basis and is effective for eight consecutive semesters (summer, study abroad and the evening program do not qualify). Students must meet the renewal criteria to maintain eligibility. This honor entitles the recipient to receive $5,000 a year. The recipient must enroll as a full-time student. The scholarship pays for a maximum of 18 credit hours per semester.

Renewal: Student must maintain a cumulative 2.50 GPA calculated at the end of each spring semester (term), and earn at least 24 semester hours at the end of the academic year.

DU Grant 1: The determined amount of the Grant is awarded on an academic year basis and is effective for eight consecutive semesters (summer, study abroad, and the evening program do not qualify). This honor entitles the recipient to receive $3,500 a year. The recipient must enroll as a full-time student. Renewal: Student must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress which is reviewed at the end of each semester.

TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS:

Transfer Scholarship 1: Transfer students with at least 12 completed credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 – 4.00 (on a 4.0 scale). Renewal: Must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.

Transfer Scholarship 2: Transfer students with at least 12 completed credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.70 – 3.24 (on a 4.0 scale). Renewal: Must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA.

Transfer Grant 1: Transfer students with at least 12 completed credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.25 – 2.69 (on a 4.0 scale). Renewal: Must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.

Transfer Grant 2: Transfer students with at least 12 completed credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 – 2.24 (on a 4.0 scale). Renewal: Must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA.

SKILL BASE AWARDS:

Dillard University offers Athletic and Talent Scholarships to students who demonstrate special skills.

Athletic Awards
Four-Year Scholarship: These awards are based on athletic ability in basketball, cross-country, volleyball and softball. For more information, contact the Athletic Department at (504) 816-4752.

Talent-Based Awards
Four-Year Scholarship: These awards are based on individual talent in theater, music and art. Amount varies. For more information, contact the Division of Humanities at (504) 816-4689.

NEED-BASE AWARD:

Student Success Award: This award is an Institutional Grant that is awarded based on a calculation of the students’ ACT/ SAT score, Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) and other components such as: the student’s State of Residence, Housing (on-campus vs. off campus), and other Resources (Grant/Scholarships) the student may be receiving. This gap filler award helps to bridge the cost between the tuition and other aid the student has been awarded. The amount of the award varies depending on the calculation.

Renewal of the award is based on the availability of funding. This award cannot be used for programs such as summer, study abroad and the evening program. If funding is available, students must meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy to be reconsidered.

ENDOW AND NON-ENDOW FUNDING

Additionally, Dillard University awards Endow and Non-Endow scholarship funds to our students.  These awards are based on specific requirement as establised by the sponsor/donor.  The award amount varies depending on the availablity of funding.

Notes: When packaging financial aid awards, it is a federal requirement that awards cannot exceed the university’s total Cost of Attendance (COA).

Additional outside scholarships and/or state aid will reduce the amount of an institutional award.

Dillard University reserves the right to review and adjust awards at any time to maintain compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations.
