Dillard University's Pre-Freshman Summer Engineering Program caters to 9th and 10th grade students from low-income families who have demonstrated a high potential for success in the natural sciences.
Over four weeks, students bolster their academic skills, work with university professors, gain exposure to life on a renowned college campus, and emerge ready for the challenges of the coming school year. In addition to studying mathematics, biology, communications, computer science, and scientific instrumentation, students also discuss social and cultural issues, and participate in athletic activities. The program utilizes a hands-on approach, and employs one instructor for every three students.
Throughout the four-week summer program, 30 students will:
- Participate in scientific demonstrations and experiments
- Develop mathematical reasoning and analytic skills
- Engage in computer training
- Go on field trips
- Play the 24-Math Game
- Attend the Engineering Science Fair
