    In an opinion piece for the L.A. Times, Dillard President Dr. Walter Kimbrough pens a question to hip hop moguls Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine asking them why they didn't consider giving their large donation to a black college instead of to the already well-endowed university, USC.

    "I do hope it will recruit and enroll a diverse class of students and not become some enclave for the already privileged student body there," says Kimbrough.

    HBCUs Affected by Unemployment and Funding Cuts PDF Print E-mail

    Dillard President Dr. Walter Kimbrough shares his concerns about high unemployment in African American communities combined with cuts in funding for higher education and how they hit HBCUs particularly hard. The result shows graduation rates have worsened at HBCUs, which already were facing scrutiny under a national push to improve outcomes in higher education, according to U.S. Education Department data analyzed by the Associated Press.

    Dillard University has been nominated for six HBCU Awards from The Center for HBCU Media Advocacy. Nominations are based on achievement as well as local and national media coverage. Winners will be announced during a ceremony at Jackson State University on June 28, 2013.

    Speaking of awards, Dillard's Nick Harris, Director of the Office of Community Relations, has received the New Orleans Neighborhood Development Foundation’s 2013 Leadership Award. The award honors an individual or organization who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the development and growth of local neighborhoods.

    Dillard says goodbye to a former faculty member and First Lady, Lillian Butler. The wife of former President Dr. Broadus-Nathaniel Butler, Lillian was a strong advocate of higher education and the arts and supported many students on their journeys through higher education.

    Dillard President Dr. Walter Kimbrough was a keynote speaker at the 10th Annual Division of Student Affairs research symposium, held at the University of Michigan. President Kimbrough shared the success of the Black Male Initiative Program he helped create at Philander Smith. Under the program, students gained greater social skills and connected with mentors.
