Ruth Simmons Breaks Academic Barriers |

Dillard alumna and Board of Trustees member Ruth Simmons made history twice, in becoming the first woman and first African American to lead an Ivy League College.
Simmons has served on a number of boards, including the Dillard University’s Board of Trustees, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, and Texas Instruments.

The Bleu Devils were on fire, Thursday, Feb. 28 as they took on the Xavier Gold Rush at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference tournament. Held at Barton Coliseum, the game was a close match, with Dillard winning for the first time since 2009 in this series, which dates to the late 1940s.

Dillard Alumnus and award-winning poet Jericho Brown is in the news with a new reading event and faculty position at Emory University. A Louisiana native and former speechwriter for the Mayor of New Orleans, Brown has won numerous writing awards. Brown's first collection of poetry, "PLEASE," won the 2009 American Book Award and he was recently awarded a fellowship from the Civitella Ranieri Foundation.

"Catch the Wall" at Cook Theatre |

"Catch the Wall", a new play by Gabrielle Reisman, begins its run at Cook Theatre on March 14, through March 24, 2013 on the Dillard University campus. In Reisman’s original play “Catch the Wall,” which was mounted in a workshop performance last year, two New Orleans middle-schoolers work together to make a dance video in memory of a popular bounce MC. The plot thickens when the rapper’s ghost begins haunting the halls of their charter school, and the two students must band together to fight dangers both real and from beyond the grave – with ingenuity, determination and of course, music. “Catch the Wall” will run for 8 performances in March, under the umbrella of the NOLA Project theatre company.

President Kimbrough has Big Goals |

Dillard President Dr. Walter Kimbrough has big goals for the University. He also has much praise for the faculty, staff and students and shares what he thinks makes it such a special school.
"I always start with the students. They have been fantastic! The faculty contains a number of superstars doing some great work. The staff is extremely committed to the university, and loves the students. ... Add a unique history, including overcoming a once-in-a-lifetime natural disaster, and you have a great institution."
