Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution, invites applications for the position of Campus Police Officer. The University is located in the culturally-rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana.
SUMMARY
Guards and performs duties related to the protection and safety of Dillard University campus including students, personnel and visitors, other University property and other resources and assets against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of Dillard University or other University property
Conduct interior and exterior unarmed, uniformed preventative patrols, examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure and locked, if necessary
Warns violators of Dillard University rule infractions , such as loitering, trespassing, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts for possible detention or arrest by NOPD
Inspects equipment, vehicles and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred
Prepares, investigates and submits reports and alerts to the Department of Public Safety on shift activities, incidents and other concerns subject to guidelines
Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security other building doors unlocked
Provide escorts, vehicular assists and other services
Responds to emergencies, disturbances, alarms or accidents, contacts police and/or fire departments; or ambulance services, calls Sodexho Facilities in case of fire, dangerous or threatening incidents, exercises or presence of unauthorized persons
Permits authorized persons to enter property
Records time and activities of campus patrols
Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment
Regulates and records vehicle and pedestrian traffic at DU entrances and exits to maintain orderly flow
