Job Description

Position Overview:
Maintains the physical functionality of Universities Facilities including student dorm rooms, classroom space and general areas. Responds to calls from facilities dispatcher, after-hours emergencies and work orders to assess and repair non-functioning machinery and/or equipment. Performs a variety of repair and maintenance tasks including carpentry, plumbing, electric, painting, HVAC and masonry. Inspects equipment for needed and preventive maintenance. Records and reports completed repairs and items that need further attention or that require placing replacement. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Engineer (1st Class).


Essential Duties and Functions:
• Maintains communication with all affected departments, directors and/or managers as appropriate, while conducting repairs on equipment and/or building infrastructure components.
• Keeps the Chief Engineer informed of all major equipment failures and repairs as they occur.
• Maintains daily communication with the Chief Engineer and other shift engineers.
• Demonstrates the ability and desire to actively seek ways to improve customer service.
• Inspects work sites and follows up on work standards, and work being performed.
• Assists in the protection of life, building and property during emergencies such as fire, floods, hurricanes, etc.
• Reviews drawings and specifications provided by outside architectural and engineering firms, and makes changes and recommendations where required, to assure that quality work standards are met.
• Insures that priorities are established for work performed, according to student census and department requirements.
• Insures that proper licensing, training, certifications, etc., are maintained as required.
• Implements preventive maintenance for all applicable equipment.
• Responds and effectively administers repairs on equipment as required.
• Assures that all documentation for preventive and corrective maintenance included in the program, is completed and properly maintained.
•  Insures the safe and efficient operation of the Central Power Plant and all associated equipment.
• Maintains proper daily documentation for all work performed, including, but not limited to; the daily log, regularly scheduled facility rounds, P.M.s, emergency repair work orders, routine repair work orders and quick open close sheets.
• Assists in establishing 5 year Capital Equipment and Facilities Improvement Plans. Updates the same on an annual basis.

Qualifications Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must possess a current 2nd Class Boilers and Air Conditioning Certificate. Some collage, technical and/or trade school preferred. Knowledge of computerized utilities management system required. Associate\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Degree or higher in Engineering field, a plus.

Supervision:
This position has no supervisory responsibility.

Certifications, licenses and registration:
2nd Class Stationary Engineering License issued by the City of New Orleans in Boilers, Air Conditioning. EPA certification.

Competencies:
Knowledgeable in the field of, with extensive experience with, boilers, chillers, water conditioning equipment, preventive maintenance programs, and all equipment under the responsibility of this position. Must be able to handle stress and job pressures, in order to successfully complete assignments in a timely manner, and meet deadlines. Must be courteous and considerate towards students, families, coworkers and others that this position interacts with. Must be a team player, and abide by Dillard University guiding principles.

Physical Demands:
Ability to lift at least 50lbs., work in noisy environments, ability to climb, crawl in some spaces and work standing for extended periods throughout the work day.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high, ear plugs will be provided when needed. Work may be done in high places such as rooftops and on ladders. Some work will be done inside of equipment and in crawl spaces.
