Job Description

Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution, located in the culturally rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Instructor of General Education.

The Instructor of Education is a professional faculty position in the Center for the First Year Experience (CFYE) providing academic support services for all first-year students enrolled at Dillard University. The appointment is effective August 14, 2014. This position reports to the Director of the Center for 1st Year Experience.

Position Overview:
• Coordinate and share leadership for programs for incoming first year students
• Teach sections of First Year Seminar I and II
• Assist with the management of the University Convocation (UCO) 101and UCO 102 courses
• Teach additional academic, personal management and social integration workshops to facilitate the transition of new first-year students
• Coordinate the Noel Levitz Retention Management System, Early Alert and 2nd Semester Retention Initiatives which are designed to increase the success and retention of first-year students
• Serve as an academic adviser for first-year students
• Assist in the development and implementation of academic advising initiatives

Qualifications Education:
Applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Student Personnel, Education, Counseling or related field and 1-3 years of directly related experience, preferably in higher education with first year students.

Required/Desired Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
• General knowledge of enrollment management and retention best practices and the ability to apply them to an adult learning environment.
• Demonstrated understanding of curriculum for degree, credential and certificate programs.
• Working knowledge of student information systems as related to student records and advising.
• Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation.
• Strong analytical skills to gather data.
• Experience in interpreting and applying academic policies for student degree requirements and academic progress.
