Dillard University, classified by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education as a balanced arts and sciences/professions institution located in the culturally rich and diverse city of New Orleans, Louisiana, invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Residential Security Monitor.


RESIDENTIAL LIFE DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION
The mission of the Office of Residential Life is to provide a safe, secure and healthy living environment for students that enhance learning and development through community service, quality programming and academic support.

SUMMARY
The Residence Security Manager (RSM) position consists of working the 24-hour information desk in the residence halls under the supervision of a Residence Life Coordinator. The Residence Security Manager is charged with ensuring the safety of all residents of a designated hall or apartment area by monitoring and controlling the flow of residents, visitors, staff and guests in and out of the residence halls. The RSM is responsible for making sure all rules and regulations are followed and assisting with fire drills and investigating false alarms. The RSM must maintain a good working relationship with the Office of Residential Life and Office of Public Safety professional and student staff members. General work responsibilities include answering the phone, submitting work order requests and performing other customer service duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supervises general facility
• Maintain security by becoming familiar with facility, surroundings and DU residents and guests
• Secures all exterior and emergency doors
• Read and become familiar with the administrative procedures and resources contained in the Employee Handbook, Staff Manual and the Student Handbook
• Understand and enforce all University and Residence Life policies in a fair and consistent manner (i.e., visitation, smoking, quiet hours, etc.)
• Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures
• Reports concerns to the Residence Life Coordinator (i.e., maintenance, false alarms, security, facility damages, etc.)
• Documents any incident on the appropriate forms within 24 hours of occurrence
• Completes reports by recording observations, information and occurrences
• Submits all incident reports and documents in a timely manner
• Ensures student participation in fire drills/fire alarms
• Maintains contact with Campus Police in case of an emergency
• Maintains organizations stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements
• Attend regular staff meetings and in-services held by supervisor
• Attend regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with supervisor
• Complete timesheets accurately and timely
• Serve as resource and referral agent
• Sign out games and equipment

Qualifications • Must communicate effectively with people from varied social educational, and economic backgrounds
• Must be able to work without constant supervision and make decisions and have good judgment while performing under stress
• Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on department functionality
• Must have the ability to properly operate and care for University telephone and computer equipment
• Must possess the ability to operate appropriate computer functions
• Must be able to type 25 words per minute
• Must have the ability to keep concise and accurate records and carry out verbal instructions
• Must have be ability to write complete and concise reports
• Must maintain emotional stability and physical condition necessary to perform related duties
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality
• Must have a high level of professional appearance

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience at institutions of higher learning desired.
• High school diploma or GED required
• Law enforcement or security training preferred, but not required
• CPR and first aid certification preferred, but not required
• Must have and maintain a clean criminal record
• Flexible schedule and weekend hours included

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, parents, students, faculty, staff and other members of the University community.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with fundamental mathematical concepts.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employee must maintain confidentiality in all work performed. Must be flexible in work schedule. Must be willing to work evening or weekends for special events, crisis response, and/or opening and closing of hall. Must be willing to participate on an on-call duty rotation cycle during breaks and university closures. Must pass a background check performed by Human Resources.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
The RSM contract is a part-time position (20 hours per week). RSMs will be required to work between the hours of 12:00AM and 8:00AM week days and weekends. This position is not eligible for University benefits or insurance.

Current full time or part time faculty staff and/or students of Dillard University are ineligible to apply for this position.
