Currently, OISSAP offers an array of International study abroad offerings. Such programs include: CCIS Semester at Sea Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Institute For students who prefer to travel with a group of students for a short period of time, OISSAP also offers interdisciplinary programs through its newest Institute: The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade (TAST) Institute. The TAST institute allows students to physically explore slave migration patterns in the U.S. and abroad. Prior to traveling abroad, students will visit various plantation sites throughout the state of Louisiana; followed by an international trip where students are led by a faculty member to one of numerous international locations that has a historical association with the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. While there, students will make the connection between the slave trade and their own existence in America. Students will learn about this rich and historic heritage through the exploration of various cultural destinations within their country of choice. For example, students traveling to Ghana might explore: St. George’s Castle in Elmina, the Cape Coast Castle and Museum, Old Forts utilized by European powers, etc. Please contact OISSAP to acquire more information about our programs, as well as application and scholarship deadlines.
