Requirements for the Concentration in Criminal Justice

The Concentration of Criminal Justice is awarded upon completion of:

• The 41 hours university General Education core curriculum
• A minimum of 30 hours of coursework in the major
• Cognate (related) support courses
• General Electives
• The community service/service learning requirement
• The writing proficiency examination (ENG 199)
• Students must earn "C" or better in all major courses
• Majors must have complete or be enrolled simultaneously in SOC 101 to enroll in CJ 205
• Introduction to Criminal Justice is the prerequisite for all other criminal justice courses

Students will:

• Majors will demonstrate familiarity with the major sociological, and/or criminological, and/or social work theories and concepts
• Majors will demonstrate their ability to use statistics to interpret sociological, and/or criminological, and/or social work data and verbalize their meanings using their language of sociology, criminology, and/or social work
• Majors will be able to write a research paper that will reflect a thorough understanding of sociological, and/or criminological, and/or social work theory and research methodology
• Majors will demonstrate their communicative skills by presenting their research to an audience of social sciences faculty and students
