Mission The Department of Social Sciences is committed to producing graduates who are thoroughly grounded in the finest traditions of the liberal arts of which the social sciences are a primary component. The Department prepares students to understand themselves and others within regional and global contexts that are shaped by the African-American commitment to social justice and community empowerment. Each major in the Department strives to teach students critical thinking and writing skills, and the latest researched-based practices to successfully complete in graduate school or the workplace.
