2013 Summer Youth Leadership Institute


"Opening the Gates of Justice" (A.P. Tureaud, Civil Rights Attorney)

Dillard University's Summer Youth Leadership  -2013  celebrates the Civil Rights Movement through a Leadership Initiative Further, this two-week program is comprised of six enrichment components: Academic Enrichment, Community and Civic Engagement, Economic Development, Environmental Awareness, Health and Wellness, and Social Entrepreneurship. 



Date of Sessions:

Session I:  June 10 to June 21, 2013 (Grades 8-9)

Session II:  July 8 to July 19, 2013 (Grades 10-12)

Hours:  Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (All Age Groups)

Tuition: $200 per student  Lunch will be provided.

 Theatre/Art/Music Summer Enrichment Camp

The 8-week camp will run from June 10 - August 2, 2013. The cost of the camp is $400 (or $50 per week). In order to reserve a spot in the camp, a registration fee of $50 is required, along with the application. Camp will run from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

We plan to take 6 field trips, at a cost of $5 each. All participants are required to purchase a t-shirt, which is required for all field trips; the cost is $15.00. However, if a camper participated last year and still has his or her t-shirt and it still fits, they do not need to purchase a new one.

There is a waiting list ofr the 5 - 10 year-old class. Th 11 - 13 year-old class is now full. 

Please complete the attached application and return it, along with registration fee to secure a spot. Checks should be made payable to "Dillard University" with a notation of "Camp Registration Fee".

Upward Bound

The six-week program runs from June 17 - July 19, 2013, Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m and Fridays 9:00 a.m. - noon. The program is free, and available to rising 9th, 10th and 11th graders attending McMain, John McDonough, Lake Area or Clark Sr. High Schools.

Students will focus on grade level math, Spanish, Science, African America History and creative writing. Additionally, students will learn time management, study skills and participate in cultural events. The summer component is designed to decrease regression of skills, expose students to the college experience by residing on campus, and expose students to cultural experiences in other states as they visit other colleges/universities.
