Dillard University First-Year Students

First-Year Student Requirements

Requirements Dillard University admits applicants who possess high standards of scholarship, serious and realistic educational goals, potential for service and leadership, and the personal characteristics of honesty, loyalty and self-respect. The university does not make any distinction as to religion, race, or gender in the admission of its students. First-Year Students (entering directly from high school or enrolling in college for the first time).

We accept the following application types:

  • Common Application
  • Common Black College Application
  • DU Online Web Application
  • Paper Application (Collected from College Fairs/High School Visits Only)

Application Fee:

Application fee of $40.00 via check or money order payable to Dillard University. Fee Waivers are accepted)-NACAC, College Board, Financial Hardship Letter, Free/Reduced Lunch Letter

DILLARD UNIVERSITY STUDENT

GPA & Standardized Test Score Requirements:

Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 unweighted scale

18 ACT composite score or 960 SAT (math and evidence based reading and writing) Students who elect not to submit their ACT/SAT scores, must have at least a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of a 3.0 to be considered for acceptance under our Test Optional Policy.

Applicants Not Meeting Requirements:

If a first year applicant does not meet the above mentioned requirements, they must also submit two letters of recommendation and a personal statement (3-5 paragraph essay outlining your future aspirations) for further consideration.

Deadlines:

While Dillard University has rolling admissions, we HIGHLY encourage all applicants to complete the application process by the priority deadlines mentioned below.
June 1st

  • Fall Applicants

December 1st

  • Spring Applicants
    University and Presidential Scholarship (Student must be accepted by the deadline in order to be considered for this scholarship award. Please allow 5-7 business days for processing.)
Dillard University Academics

Course Requirements:

All first year applicants must submit an official transcript from a secondary school for review to the Office of Recruitment, Admissions and Programming. A final high school transcript indicating a graduation date (i.e. May 25, 20xx) must be sent to the Office of Recruitment, Admissions and Programming prior to the start of New Student Orientation (SOAR). Satisfactory completion of the following coursework is highly recommend:

  • English 4 Units
  • Mathematics 3 Units (to include Algebra I, II, and Geometry)
  • Natural Sciences 3 Units (including laboratory components)
  • Social Studies 3 Units
  • Academic Electives 6 Units (World Language desired but not required)

First-year applicants for admission under the age of 23 are highly recommended to submit scores from a standardized entrance examination to support the academic information supplied by the secondary school. Dillard accepts scores from either the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Testing (ACT). Standardized test scores are not only used for admission into Dillard University, but also used for scholarship awarding and academic course placement.
