In his January 4 “Bleu Notes” email to Dillard faculty and staff, President Walter Kimbrough made a call to action. Reflecting on MacKenzie Scott’s $5 million gift to Dillard, Kimbrough wrote, “My take away from the Scott gift after reading her blog is that we all have to commit to being Dillard brand ambassadors.” Kimbrough speculated that the University could position itself to receive larger by “enhancing the positives.” With that, the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) jumped into action.

OCM has launched the #weDUthis Wednesday social media campaign. The campaign calls for the campus community, alumni and supporters to share select University social media posts on their respective platforms. The campaign started with a call to retweet, repost and/or share Dillard’s January 20 post about Shana Broussard’s history-making appointment to the Federal Elections Commission

February’s social media posts will be dedicated to Black history facts about Dillard. Bleu Devils and supporters should look for social media posts on the University’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts on February 3, 10, 17 and 24. In addition to including #weDUthis on the social media posts, supporters will be encouraged to use the hashtag #DUBlackFacts during February.

Eddie Francis, director of communications and marketing, credits the Office of Recruitment, Admissions and Programming for the campaign’s inspiration. “Monica White, our admissions director and a Dillard alumna, had been pushing for a ‘Dillard Day’ on social media for quite some time,” he recalls. “Her team created the #weDUthis hashtag and we in OCM noticed that alumni really took to it, so we saw this as an opportunity to really get the Dillard community behind something.”

Outside of February, #weDUthis Wednesday will occur once a month. The dates following Black History Month are being determined and will be shared with the University community via the Bleu Buzz newsletter toward the end of February.
