Harmonies in Bloom: Dillard University’s Annual Spring Concert

The Dillard University Concert Choir hosted its annual Spring Concert at Bethany United Methodist Church. Under the baton of the esteemed Dr. S. Carver Davenport, the choir recently mesmerized listeners with their captivating renditions of signature selections, including Roland Carter’s timeless “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the ethereal “In Bright Mansions Above” and the soul-stirring “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”

The choir added The Lion King’s iconic “Circle of Life” to their impressive lineup. This fusion of classical and gospel pieces showcases the choir’s versatility and commitment to creating a vibrant tapestry of harmonious sounds.

The concert honored Mablene Krueger, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. Abbey-Lynn Gonzalez, choir president, presented Ms. Krueger with a plaque for her dedication to the choir and commitment to attending all their performances. “For the past two years, Provost Krueger has attended every DUCC performance, big or small, and she even traveled to Washington D.C. for the Female Ensemble’s performance at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. We will always carry you in our hearts,” Gonzalez said.

Dr. S. Carver Davenport, the longest-reigning HBCU choral director, continues to inspire and lead the choir with unmatched dedication and passion. His guidance and expertise have been instrumental in shaping the Dillard University Concert Choir into a beacon of musical excellence that stands as a testament to the rich choral tradition at Dillard University.

Councilman Eugene Green remarked on the choir’s impressive performance. “The Dillard University Choir always has an outstanding performance. As a long-time Bethany United Methodist Church member, let’s host the spring concert here every year,” Green said.
