Institutional Review Board

The Dillard University Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a group of individuals charged with reviewing proposed research involving human subjects to ensure the protection of those subjects and compliance with federal human subjects regulations (CFR 45 PART 46).

MISSION

< The primary mission of the Dillard University IRB is to ensure the protection of rights, privacy and welfare of all human participants in research programs conducted by associated faculty, professional staff, and students. To achieve this mission, the IRB will review all planned research involving human subjects prior to initiation of the research, approve research that meets established criteria for protection of human subjects, and monitor approved research to ascertain that human subjects are indeed protected.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT

It is strongly advised that all faculty, staff, and students of Dillard University and any external collaborators participating in research involving human subjects, complete an education or training program covering the revised Common Rule (or 2018 Requirements) to fully understand requirements to protect the rights, welfare, and wellbeing of volunteers who participate in research supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Protection of Human Subjects Education

Investigators and all key personnel who will be involved in the design or conduct of NIH-funded human subjects research must fulfill the protection of human subjects education requirement. One way to achieve this is by completing the Human Research Protection Training offered by the HHS Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP).

Human Research Protection Foundational Training

OHRP offers this comprehensive training on human research protections based on the requirements of the revised Common Rule (or 2018 Requirements). A printable completion certificate is available at the conclusion of each lesson. Note that OHRP does not collect information about who accesses or completes this training.
