We are pleased to announce that Atia Garrett-Washington, Ed.D., has joined the Dillard University community as the Executive Director of Recruitment, Admissions, and Programming. Dr. Garrett-Washington, a proud native of New Orleans, grew up just minutes from our campus in the Gentilly area. Her educational journey, which began at St. Leo the Great Elementary School and Xavier Preparatory High School, has shaped her dedication to academic excellence and community service.
Dr. Garrett-Washington earned her Master’s in Education Technology Leadership and Doctor of Education in Adult Learning and Development from Northwestern State University. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in Applied Sciences with a focus on Informatics from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. With over a decade of experience in data management, recruitment, strategic analytics, enrollment planning, project management, and leadership, she brings a wealth of knowledge and innovation to Dillard University.
Prior to joining Dillard, Dr. Garrett-Washington served as Executive Director of Admissions, Recruitment, and Dual Enrollment at Southern University at New Orleans. There, she led the implementation of innovative software solutions that contributed to increased undergraduate and dual enrollment student numbers. Her commitment to aligning her work ethic with organizational goals and fostering accountability exemplifies her leadership approach.
Expressing her enthusiasm for this new chapter, Dr. Garrett-Washington shared, “I am humbled to have this opportunity. Dillard University has always been a prominent institution, and now, given my current position, I can assist with bringing more distinction to the institution and community. The Office of Recruitment, Admissions, and Programming is here to serve our students, both new and returning, faculty, staff, and our community, so please stop by to see us in Rosenwald Hall.”
