Dillard University Takes Bold Steps Toward a Sustainable Future!

Exciting news, Dillard family—our university is taking a significant step forward in advancing sustainability, climate action, and environmental responsibility!  Dillard University is proud to be part of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education (ACE) Pilot Program for Sustainability Elective Classification.

What does this mean for students, faculty, staff, and alumni?  It means Dillard is recognized as a leader in integrating sustainability into every part of our institution—from classrooms and research to campus operations and community partnerships.  This initiative will help shape the future of our university by ensuring we foster a thriving, sustainable community for generations to come.

Why This Matters

  • Dillard is committing to environmental stewardship, resilience, and societal well-being— because sustainability is more than “going green.”  It’s about creating a better future for our students, the city, and the world.
  • This classification will assess how we teach, research, and operate to ensure we are preparing students for in-demand careers in sustainability fields.
  • It allows Dillard to connect with other universities and share best practices in sustainability, strengthening our impact as an HBCU leader.

What’s Next

Led by Dr. Catina Pierre Alexander, Grant & Prospect Researcher, Dillard will undergo a comprehensive self-assessment to celebrate our achievements, identify areas for growth, and set bold sustainability goals for the future.  This is an opportunity for our entire Dillard community to get involved, make an impact, and champion sustainability initiatives on and off campus.

Stay tuned for updates on how you can participate and help shape Dillard’s legacy in environmental and social sustainability!
