Biology Degrees and Programs

Bachelor of Science in Biology
Explore the field of biology through our rigorous program, encompassing 123 credit hours structured as follows:
- General Education Core: 41 credit hours
- Major Requirements: 41 credit hours
- Additional Coursework: 41 credit hours
Students will take part in hands-on learning and actively participate in community service initiatives, accumulating a total of 90 hours by the end of their junior year, facilitated by the Center for Career and Professional Development.
To enhance written communication skills, students must successfully complete ENG 111 and ENG 112 with a minimum grade of 'C' to qualify for ENG 199 - Writing Proficiency Examination. Those requiring further support may enroll in ENG 200 - Review of Writing Strategies (3 credit hours).
Bachelor of Science in Biology - 3/2 Program
In our Biology 3/2 program, students embark on an enriched academic journey spanning 123 credit hours, carefully structured to encompass:
- 41 credit hours dedicated to the General Education Core
- 41 credit hours of Major Requirements, and
- An additional 41 credit hours of specialized coursework.
Complementing their studies, students actively engage in service learning initiatives, integrating real-world experiences into their education while accruing a total of 90 community service hours by the culmination of their junior year under the guidance of the Center for Career and Professional Development.
As part of the 3/2 program, students transition seamlessly into a related two-year graduate program, equipping them with both a bachelor's and master's degree in Biology. This holistic approach not only provides academic knowledge but also hones practical skills and experiences necessary for success in the field of biology.
Bachelor of Science in Biology – Pre-Professional Concentration
In our Biology Pre-Professional Program, students cultivate essential skills and experiences to excel in their field:
- Demonstrate a broad-based knowledge of concepts and terminology in cellular, molecular, organismal, and ecological biology;
- Analyze, solve problems, understand relationships, and interpret information in the biological sciences and supporting fields;
- Communicate scientific information in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing.
To follow this curriculum, students must receive prior approval from the Biology Program Coordinator (or designated committee) and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Completing a total of 123 credit hours of coursework for graduation, students engage in:
- General Education Core
- Major Requirements
- Additional Coursework
Furthermore, our program integrates service learning, where students earn a total of 30 service learning hours upon successful completion of foundational courses. Additionally, students actively participate in community service initiatives, accruing a total of 90 hours by the end of their junior year through pre-approved projects coordinated by the Center for Career and Professional Development.
For writing proficiency, students must meet specific requirements to register for the Writing Proficiency Examination. Those who do not pass must enroll in a course aimed at enhancing their writing skills.
