NEW ORLEANS, LA — Dillard University is proud to announce that retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Russell L. Honoré will receive an honorary degree during its 2026 Commencement ceremony. The event will take place on the historic Avenue of Oaks on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
A nationally respected leader, Lt. Gen. Honoré is widely recognized for his distinguished military career and his instrumental leadership in disaster response efforts, particularly following Hurricane Katrina. A Louisiana native, he has remained deeply committed to the upliftment and resilience of communities across the Gulf South and beyond. His continued advocacy for environmental justice, emergency preparedness, and community empowerment reflects a lifelong dedication to service.
