NEW ORLEANS, La. — Dillard University is honored to announce that Bishop Delores J. Williamston will serve as the speaker for the University’s 2026 Baccalaureate Service, a cherished commencement tradition that offers reflection, inspiration, and spiritual grounding for graduating seniors.

Bishop Williamston currently serves as bishop of The Louisiana Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church, providing spiritual leadership across the region. A 22-year veteran of the Kansas Army National Guard, she retired with the rank of sergeant first class after serving as chief supervisor of account and finance operations at the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office in Topeka.

Her journey is marked by perseverance and purpose. After earning her GED in 1982, Bishop Williamston continued her academic pursuits, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ethics and Management from Manhattan Christian College, a Master of Divinity from St. Paul School of Theology with a focus on Evangelism and Black Church Ministries, and most recently, a Doctor of Ministry from Phillips Theological Seminary in 2023.

Ordained as an elder in full connection in 2010, Bishop Williamston has served in numerous leadership roles, including district superintendent and Director of Clergy Excellence in the Great Plains Conference. Today, she also serves as President of the General Commission on the Status and Role of Women, advocating for equity and inclusion within the church, and contributes to multiple boards and ministries that strengthen congregations and communities.

“We are deeply honored to welcome Bishop Williamston to Dillard University for this significant moment in the lives of our graduates,” said Dr. Monique Guillory, President of Dillard University. “Her journey of faith, resilience, and leadership embodies the very values we seek to instill in our students. I am especially excited for her to share words and expressions that will inspire and uplift the Class of 2026 as they prepare to step boldly into their next chapter.”

The Baccalaureate Service will be held as part of Dillard University’s 2026 Commencement Week activities, bringing together graduates, families, faculty, and staff for a moment of reflection and celebration.

A breast cancer survivor, Bishop Williamston is also a devoted mother and grandmother who finds joy in storytelling, nature, and creative arts. Her life and ministry reflect a deep commitment to service, empowerment, and transformative leadership—making her an ideal voice to encourage Dillard’s graduating class.
