Dear Dillard University Family,
Commencement is one of the most meaningful moments in the life of our university—a time when we gather, as one community, to celebrate the hard work, resilience, and achievements of our students. It is a day filled with pride, reflection, and joy.
Due to a series of heavy rain events in the days leading up to this year’s ceremony, we must make a necessary change to ensure that moment can be experienced safely and without disruption. Although the weather on Saturday may improve, the grounds will not be ready in time for the level of preparation required to properly host Commencement.
With the safety and well-being of our entire community in mind, we will relocate the 2026 Commencement Ceremony to Franklin Avenue Baptist Church.
Saturday, May 9, 2026 | 8:00 a.m.
8282 I-10 Service Road, New Orleans, LA 70126
While we understand this change may bring disappointment—especially for those who cherish celebrating on the Avenue of the Oaks—we are confident in this decision. Having hosted Commencement at Franklin Avenue Baptist Church previously, we know it offers the space, comfort, and environment needed to honor our graduates in a way that is both meaningful and memorable.
As we prepare to celebrate this special occasion together, we kindly ask all graduates and guests to help us respect the policies of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church. Please note that no food or drinks will be allowed inside the sanctuary, and balloons are not permitted inside the building.
Please also note that the Baccalaureate Service will proceed at Lawless Memorial Chapel:
Friday, May 8, 2026 | 6:00 p.m.

Moments like these remind us that while locations may change, the spirit of Dillard does not. Our pride in the Class of 2026—and in our Golden and Silver graduates—remains unwavering. We are committed to celebrating this milestone with the dignity, joy, and excellence it deserves.
Thank you for your understanding, your flexibility, and your continued love for this institution.
We look forward to celebrating together.
With gratitude,
Dillard University Administration
