We are all heartbroken that the start to the New Year has been tainted by a local tragedy. New Orleans has historically attracted millions of visitors each year who enjoy all our city has to offer and return safely home. This morning, our hearts are heavy with grief for the lives lost and our prayers go out to their families and loved ones who face this new year with unimaginable grief. We also recognize how this incident will undermine the city’s carefree, “good times rolling” spirit that we have cherished, and perhaps taken for granted, for so long.
This senseless act of violence reminds us of the importance of compassion and unity. As we reflect on the start of a new year, let us each commit to being the love and light the world so desperately needs today. Together, we can foster an environment where all feel respected and valued. Let us honor those we lost by committing to a future rooted in love and resilience.
Love, unity, and resilience.
