Celebrating 85 Years of Legacy and Brotherhood of Beta Phi Chapter

The brothers of the Beta Phi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. returned to Dillard University to celebrate their 85th charter anniversary. The festivities took place from November 9-12, 2023, on campus and throughout New Orleans and was chaired by Malik Bartholomew ‘04. The planning committee organized a weekend filled with fellowship, service, and cherished times and traditions on the yard. This 85th anniversary celebration was a momentous occasion, reuniting old friends, reigniting fraternal bonds, and showcasing the unwavering strength and legacy of the Beta Phi Chapter.

On Friday, November 10, 2023, the Beta Phi Chapter hosted a gala to celebrate 85 years of service and brotherhood on Dillard’s campus while the gala was filled with music and food, the event was indeed special for recognizing not only brothers who had achieved success in their professional and fraternal careers but by honoring Rachel Mercadel ‘75 with the Shirley B. Porter Excellence Award and Geannie Stewart with the Beta Phi 85th Anniversary Yellow Rose Award.

One of the Gala’s highlights was the contributions to the endowed scholarship to President Dr. Rochelle L. Ford by fundraising chairs Marion Bracy ‘84, Victor Robinson ‘98, and Kyle Jones ’03.

The Beta Phi chapter members have substantially contributed to the “Alpha Phi Alpha Beta Phi Chapter Endowed Scholarship,” raising more than $38,000. This transformative gift will provide aspiring students the financial means to pursue their educational dreams at Dillard University.

The members’ commitment to education and equality is deeply rooted in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.’s principles, which have a long history of promoting education, leadership, and service.

According to the university gift committee, “This scholarship will alleviate some of the financial burden that comes with being a student and allow our recipients to focus on their academic development.”

The endowed scholarship aligns perfectly with the university’s mission, reinforcing the importance of education and providing opportunities for deserving students to realize their full potential.
