The Dillard University Concert Choir, with its first performance dating back to December 8, 1935,
is a distinguished musical ensemble recognized for its rich history and artistic achievement. The
choir’s legacy includes a historic White House performance during the 2011-2012 season,
further cementing its reputation on the national stage.
Founded under the leadership of Professor Frederick Hall, the DUCC’s inaugural tour
(1935-1936) set a precedent for excellence that continues today. Under the direction of S.
Carver Davenport, Associate Professor of Music and Concert Choir Director, the DUCC has
flourished. With an unprecedented 48-year tenure, Davenport holds the distinction of being the
longest-serving choral director among all 105 Historically Black Colleges and Universities
