We are thrilled to announce that our Bleu Devils have clinched the 2025 HBCUAC Hope Credit Union Basketball Championship, securing a thrilling 74-72 victory over Philander Smith College on Sunday at Birthright Alumni Hall in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
This triumph marks Dillard’s fourth conference tournament title and the first since our remarkable streak from 2016 to 2018.
The championship game was a testament to our team’s resilience and determination. Trailing by five points with just over two minutes remaining, the Bleu Devils mounted a remarkable comeback. Khalif Allim’s emphatic dunk ignited the rally, followed by a crucial steal and layup by tournament MVP Bentravin Phillips. Justin Warren then nailed a clutch three-pointer to tie the game with 56 seconds left. Phillips sealed the victory with another steal and layup, ensuring the lead remained with Dillard until the final buzzer.
Phillips’ outstanding performance, contributing 18 points, six assists, and three steals, earned him the Most Valuable Player honors. Teammates Tory Cargo and Justin Warren also delivered exceptional performances, both securing spots on the All-Tournament Team.
With this victory, Dillard University has secured an automatic bid to the 2025 NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship Opening Round.
Please join us in celebrating Coach Price, our student-athletes, coaching staff, and supporters who have made this achievement possible.
Go Bleu Devils!
