NEW ORLEANS, LA — The Dillard University Choir, under the direction of Dr. S. Carver Davenport, Associate Professor of Music and the Ray Charles Endowed Professor of Music, will host a celebratory concert on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Lawless Memorial Chapel, located on Dillard University’s campus at 2601 Gentilly Blvd, New Orleans, LA.
This special performance honors Dr. Monique Guillory in her inaugural year as President of Dillard University. The concert also marks Dr. Davenport’s incredible 50th year leading the renowned Dillard Choir.
The choir has recently captivated audiences nationwide with performances in cities including Dallas, TX; Shreveport, LA; Providence, RI; Syracuse, NY; and Washington, DC. Highlights include appearances at Brown University, Syracuse University’s Annual Jazz Festival, and Lincoln Center.
Attendees will enjoy an inspiring selection of works, including signature pieces like Roland Carter’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and the spiritual classic “In Bright Mansions Above.” This season’s special spiritual presentations include “Don’t You Let Nobody Turn You Roun’” arranged by Phillip McIntyre and “My Good Lord Done Been Here” arranged by Lee Cloud. The concert will feature exceptional solo performances, including a rare countertenor soloist, as well as the Dillard University Female and Male Ensembles.
Doors will open at 1:00 PM. This dedicatory concert promises to be a premier cultural event of the season, celebrating Dillard University’s musical legacy and leadership.
