Dillard Mourns the Loss of Retired Dean of Business Edgar “Dooky” Chase III.

The Dillard University community sends its deepest condolences to the family of the retired Dean of Business and Vice President of Facilities Planning & Management, Mr. Edgar “Dooky” Chase, III, who passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was the father of Dillard alums Edgar “Dook,” IV ‘04, Trevor ’97, and Travis Chase ‘97, Dillard’s’ Major Gifts Officer.

Mr. Chase began his career at Dillard in 1986 as a business faculty member, later serving as department dean until his retirement in 2005.  He came out of retirement in 2006 following Hurricane Katrina to lead the rebuilding efforts as Vice President of Facilities Planning and Management.  His guidance and business acumen were crucial to the revitalization of the campus. 

Upon his second retirement, June 30, 2009, was declared Edgar L. Chase, III Day in honor of his twenty-three combined years of exemplary and distinguished service to the university.

Known for his commitment to education and his community, Mr. Chase served on numerous boards and committees, mentoring many along the way. An avid supporter of Dillard, following his retirement, he was often on campus attending and participating in numerous events, particularly the Justice Revius O. Ortique Lecture on Law and Society.
