Homecoming 2025 – Personal Safety Tips

Homecoming is a special time to celebrate Dillard University’s history, accomplishments, and bright future. As we come together in community and spirit, let’s make sure we continue our traditions in a safe and welcoming environment.

Campus Access and Identification

  • Members of the Dillard community must carry their University ID at all times.
  • Guests must have a valid state-issued driver’s license or ID while on campus.
  • All individuals are subject to security screenings upon entry.
  • Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited.
  • The Dillard University Police Department (DUPD) asks everyone to partner in keeping our campus safe.

Important Numbers

  • DUPD Emergency: 504-816-4911
  • DUPD Non-Emergency: 504-816-5310

If you witness a verbal or physical altercation, or see suspicious activity, report it immediately to a DUPD officer.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings

  • Stay alert and aware of what’s happening around you at all times.
  • If something feels off, trust your instincts and move to a populated area.
  • Avoid allowing strangers to approach your personal space.
  • Remember: large events can attract unwanted activity—stay vigilant.
  • If you see suspicious behavior, try to get a description and call the police or DUPD right away.

Be Responsible

  • Park in well-lit, designated areas and familiarize yourself with the campus layout.
  • Stick with your group—never travel alone. Leave with the same group you arrived with.
  • Share your location using “Find My Friends” or a similar app, and let someone know your plans.
  • Walk confidently and stay alert; avoid distractions such as texting or using headphones.
  • Keep your phone charged and accessible.
  • Do not use illegal substances or engage in activities that could impair your judgment.

Protect Your Valuables

  • Carry personal identification with you at all times.
  • Keep phones and electronic devices secure when not in use.
  • Store valuables in your vehicle’s trunk—never leave them in plain sight.
  • Avoid displaying large amounts of cash.
  • Always lock your dorm room, apartment, and vehicle.

Call for Help

Remember: Safety is everyone’s responsibility.
If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to DUPD or local law enforcement. Together, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable Homecoming for all.
