Reciprocal Borrowing Policy

As a member of the Louisiana Library Network (LOUIS)/ Council on Academic Libraries Liaison (CALL) consortium, Will W. Alexander Library participates in a reciprocal loan program that allows faculty and staff to borrow materials from other participating institutions in the New Orleans area. Below is the process for borrowing and lending materials through this program.

For Our Students, Faculty, and Staff Borrowing from Other Libraries

  1. Obtain a LOUIS/CALL Card
    • Visit the first-floor service desk and speak with the librarian on duty to request a LOUIS/CALL card or complete the online application on the library’s webpage.
    • You must present a valid university ID and be in good standing with our library.
    • *Cards are only valid for one semester. You must renew each semester within the Library.
  1. Access Participating Libraries
    • With the LOUIS/CALL card, you may visit any participating institution to check out materials.
    • Borrowing privileges and loan periods are subject to the policies of the lending library.
  1. Returning Borrowed Items
    • You are responsible for returning materials directly to the lending library.
    • Late fees, lost item fees, and other borrowing policies will be enforced by the lending institution.
        1. Please note, you will be held financially responsible for fees associated with any late or lost items.

For Faculty and Staff Borrowing from Our Library

  1. Verification of Eligibility
    • Visiting borrowers must present a valid LOUIS/CALL card issued by their home institution.
    • They must also provide a valid university ID for verification.
  1. Loan Privileges & Restrictions
    • Loan periods, renewal options, and borrowing limits will be based on our library’s circulation policies.
    • Certain materials, such as reference books, reserves, and special collections, may not be available for loan.
  1. Returns & Responsibilities
    • Borrowed materials must be returned directly to our library by the due date.
    • Overdue or lost items may result in fees and possible suspension of LOUIS/CALL borrowing privileges.
