Inauguration Weekend brings energy, anticipation for the future of Dillard

Numerous times throughout Inauguration Weekend, many an attendee could be heard commenting on how “beautiful” the weather was, as it seemed to compliment the celebratory mood. Visitors from near and far enjoyed one of America’s most beautiful college campuses the way it is meant to be taken in–on mild clear, sunny days. Equally as bright and sunny was the smile of President Rochelle L. Ford, who was officially installed as Dillard’s eighth president.

Dillard highlights exhibition to honor Black lives lost to HIV/AIDS during Black History Month

During Black History Month, Dillard University is highlighting an important exhibition that honors Black lives lost to HIV/AIDS from February 7-11. Dillard’s Minority Health & Health Equity Research Center and the Office of the Chaplain collaborated with the National AIDS Memorial and the Southern AIDS Coalition to bring Change the Pattern, an initiative funded by Gilead Sciences to shed light on the number of HIV/AIDS cases in the state and the disparity among African Americans.

Dillard Athletics announces 2022-2023 Hall of Fame class

The Dillard University Department of Athletics has announced its 2022-2023 Hall of Fame class. The ceremony to officially induct the class will take place 6 p.m., May 10, 2023 in Georges Auditorium in the Professional Schools and Sciences Building followed by a reception and the Billy Ray Hobley Scholarship Banquet in Lucien Pavilion. The Hall of Fame class and other honorees were selected based on their high character and their accomplishments as trailblazers.

On Dec. 15, Harvard University appointed Dr. Claudine Gay as president, making her its first Black American, and second woman president, in its nearly 400-year history. She becomes the second Black woman to lead an Ivy League university; the first was Dillard University graduate Ruth Simmons, who will retire this academic year from Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University. Dr. Simmons served as the 18th president of Brown University from 2001 to 2012
