Dillard University Announces Rochester “Rock” Anderson ’84 as Chairman of the Board of Trustees

On behalf of the Office of the President, Dillard University proudly announces the appointment of Rochester “Rock” Anderson ’84 as Chairman of the Dillard University Board of Trustees, effective Friday, May 8, 2026.

A distinguished business executive, accomplished human resources leader, and proud Dillard alumnus, Anderson brings decades of executive leadership experience and a deep commitment to advancing the university’s mission of cultivating leaders, innovators, and global citizens.

Anderson currently serves as Chief Human Resources Officer for Emory Healthcare, where he leads the organization’s talent strategy, employee engagement and development initiatives, and overall human resources operations in support of one of Georgia’s largest health care systems. Throughout his career, he has successfully guided large, complex organizations through periods of transformation, growth, and operational excellence across both the healthcare and automotive industries.

Prior to joining Emory Healthcare, Anderson served as Chief Human Resources Officer for AutoNation, the nation’s largest automotive retailer. He also spent more than a decade with Cox Automotive, serving as Global Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Earlier in his career, Anderson held leadership positions with Manheim, FINRA, Siemens, Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo), and INROADS, Inc.

In addition to his corporate accomplishments, Anderson has demonstrated a longstanding commitment to community service and educational advancement. He serves on the Board of Directors of Carter’s, Inc. and has held leadership roles with numerous nonprofit, civic, and educational organizations, including the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, the Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta, St. Anthony Catholic Church, Tulane University School of Social Work, and St. Augustine High School.

A native of New Orleans, Anderson earned his bachelor’s degree from Dillard University and later received a graduate degree from Tulane University. In recognition of his impact and leadership, he was named one of the 2022 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America.

As Board Chairman, Anderson will work closely with university leadership and fellow trustees to support Dillard University’s strategic priorities, strengthen institutional advancement efforts, and ensure the university remains a leading force in higher education and student success.
