    Bright,Young Dillard Student Senslessly Murdered PDF Print E-mail

    It is with great sadness that we report a promising young Dillard student, Marguerite Washington was shot and killed on Monday, October 1, 2012. The incoming freshman was visiting with her boyfriend and was the victim of a violent crossfire.

    Services for Marguerite will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012. Visitation will begin at  9 a.m., with the funeral held at 11 a.m. at First Grace United Methodist Church, 3401 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA.

    Dillard Alumnus First African American Chief Judge of Appeals PDF Print E-mail

    Another first for another Dillard alumnus -The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has its first black chief judge. Monday is Judge Carl E. Stewart's first day as chief judge of the New Orleans-based appeals court. The Shreveport resident succeeds Judge Edith H. Jones, who stepped down from the post.

    Farewell P VPA gathering of black leaders and HBCU presidents meet in Washington, D.C. next week for the White House Initiative on Black Colleges conference. Much of their discussion will be about HBCU presidential vacancies and potential candidates. Dillard's Dr. Walter Strong is mentioned as a highly sought prospect for a top position as a president of an HBCU.

    Ebony Magazine Gives Top Ranking to Dillard PDF Print E-mail

    Dillard University has been listed as one of the top related law schools by Ebony Magazine. Ebony looked at the “program offerings, academic rigor and relative stability” of the nation’s 105 HBCUs and compiled a list of top schools in each of five disciplines: science, social sciences, liberal arts and law.

    Dillard alumna Judge Sheva M. Sims will discuss the importance of knowing one’s individual rights, protocols for communicating with law enforcement, and how ACLU cases impact the law at The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Department of Communication's presentation of “Knowing and Communicating Your Rights to Law Enforcement". A question and answer session will take place after the presentations.
