This year, the Minority Health and Health Equity Research Center (MHHERC) made significant changes to the Dillard University Pre-Health Scholars Institute (DUPSI) Scholarship program. On March 19, 2024, instead of awarding a full scholarship to four to six students, the MHHERC granted multiple eligible students scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000.
Latricia Tillman, Pre-Health Advisor at the MHHERC, expressed hope and excitement for the future of the DUPSI Awardees, “We are hopeful and excited about the futures of our DUPSI Awardees. We hope this award will help launch their successful careers as health professionals and health equity leaders.”
The awarded scholarships from the Dillard University Minority Health and Health Equity Research Center were allocated towards tuition, books, supplies, equipment, room and board, travel for pre-health career opportunities, test prep support, and other health career-related expenses at Dillard University.
To qualify, awardees had to be current students pursuing a degree at Dillard University, enrolled in the Pre-Health Program, maintain a minimum GPA of 2.75, show active engagement in the program, and demonstrate a strong commitment to preparing for a career focused on advancing health equity.
Awardees are expected to lead and offer guidance in Pre-Health program activities, participate in mandatory DUPSI programs like mentoring, research, and community service, engage in networking and job shadowing opportunities, and continue applying for scholarships, internships, and research fellowships.
