Dillard University Launches Pathways To Success Scholarships Program to Empower Deserving Students

New Orleans, LAInterim President, Dr. Monique Guillory, along with the Board of Trustees and the Office of Institutional Advancement, proudly introduces the Judge Carl E. Stewart Pathways to Success Scholarship Endowment. This prestigious scholarship is the first named fund under the Pathways to Success Fund. Inspired by Michael D. Jones of the Dillard University Board of Trustees, the fund aims to provide financial support and expedited opportunities for students to pursue an education at Dillard University.

This first scholarship endowment is named in honor of Judge Carl E. Stewart, esteemed alumnus who received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1971, before earning his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University College of Law in 1974.

With over two decades of judicial service, Judge Stewart’s distinguished career led to his appointment by President Bill Clinton to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in 1994. His jurisdiction encompassed all federal courts in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. In 2019, then Chief Judge Stewart was honored with the Edward Devitt Award for Distinguished Service to the Federal Judiciary, the highest recognition bestowed upon an Article III federal judge.

Stephanie Rogers, vice president for Institutional Advancement, expressed excitement, saying, “We are thrilled to work with Dr. Guillory and so many others to help realize Chairman Jones’ vision for expanding access to opportunities through the Pathways to Success Scholarship Endowment. The Judge Carl E. Stewart Pathways Fund is the first of what we hope will be many other named Pathways funds by alumni and friends. This initiative underscores The University’s commitment to removing financial barriers and empowering students to achieve academic success. Together, with the support of generous donors, we can unlock a brighter future for deserving students and continue cultivating a community of excellence and opportunity.”

The Judge Carl E. Stewart Pathways to Success Scholarship Endowment will support full-time students, with special consideration given to applicants from Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi who display academic excellence with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and pursuing majors in Criminal Justice, Health Science, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, or related fields. The scholarship is renewable for up to two years after the initial award. Dillard’s Office of Financial Aid will select recipients based on the criteria above.
