NEW ORLEANS — Dillard University has partnered with Warner Chappell Music (WCM) to offer students exclusive access to hands-on training from music industry executives during a Sync Summit that will take place on Dillard’s campus April 11-13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

During the three-day summit, students from the business, music, music industry studies, mass communication and pre-law majors will have an opportunity to gain insight into music publishing as a career path, with specific emphasis on sync and licensing. There will also be a sync competition, in addition to a networking reception with students.

The WCM and Dillard University Sync Summit, which is the first of its kind, was created by Dillard alumna and music business professional, Lauren Youngblood ‘10. The former music business major found interest in the sync and licensing fields while interning at WCM during graduate school and wanted to expose Dillard students to other career paths within the music industry as well.

Youngblood explained how careers such as artists and repertoire (A&R), marketing or legal affairs are well known music industry careers, whereas careers such as music publishing and licensing aren’t as widely known. “My goal is to make this an effort amongst HBCUs that may not have as much access to companies like Warner Chappell,” said Youngblood.

Rich Robinson, executive vice president, global synchronization and media original music at WCM said: “It’s really important for all of us to help create a more diverse workforce. With this partnership, we hope to form long term mentoring relationships with students who may have not had access to networking opportunities with professionals in the music industry before. It’s our goal to not only provide information about music publishing, but to  give students valuable tools  they can use to build their careers.”
