Dillard gears up for second annual National Law School Signing Day

For a second year, students in Dillard University’s Legal Education Advancing Diversity (L.E.A.D.) Program will reveal the law schools they plan to attend. Eight students will reveal their selections Wednesday, April 12 at 11 a.m. in the Harold and Rhea Lucien Pavilion located in the Professional Schools and Sciences Building at Dillard’s National Law School Signing Day.

Dillard to host U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will visit Dillard University to participate in an event at 11 a.m., April 11 in Georges Auditorium in the Professional Schools and Sciences Building. Sherman will speak with students about U.S. foreign policy, how U.S. foreign policy is made stronger through diversity, and careers and paid student programs at the U.S. Department of State.

Malik Bartholomew ‘04 has been appointed as the new Archives & Special Collections Assistant for the William Alexander Library. Bartholomew stepped into his role earlier this month. He will collect, preserve and protect the historical items and documents of the University. Bartholomew will also be responsible for assisting individuals with historical projects about Dillard.

Dillard Theatre presents “Knock Me a Kiss”

The Department of Theatre at Dillard University is presenting its spring 2023 production, “Knock Me a Kiss,” in the Samuel DuBois Cook Theatre two weekends. The first weekend is March 10-13, and the second weekend is 17-19. The Friday and Saturday productions begin at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinées are at 3 p.m. In its historic 88th season, Dillard Theatre is the first degree-granting theatre program at an HBCU.

Dillard awarded $700K grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation

Dillard University has received a $700,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for a multi-year project in collaboration with the Dillard University Ray Charles Program in African-American Material Culture. Dillard was selected after a rigorous and competitive grant proposal, interview and selection process. The grant entitled, “Higher Learning Through Humanities in Food Studies,” will help strengthen research, food studies, community programming and fellowships. Dillard’s selection makes the University a primary and intellectual hub of a national network, strengthening its legacy as a leader in liberal arts education.

Dillard returns to campus after February 26 power outage

Dillard University has begun its move back to campus, as the University recovers from a power outage that occurred early on the morning of February 26. The phased move back to campus began with University leaders returning to their offices March 1. Today, residents of Williams Hall and Straight Hall are returning to their rooms. Residents of Camphor-Hartzell Hall will return March 3.

Dillard housed the largest AIDS quilt display at any HBCU during Change the Pattern exhibition

Tennis champion Arthur Ashe, and the only Black man to win the Wimbledon and the U.S. and Australian Opens, died of complications from AIDS in 1993. After being diagnosed with AIDS, Ashe spent the remainder of his life raising awareness about the disease. That sentiment remains for Dillard University’s tennis teams who paid tribute to Ashe during World AIDS Day by handcrafting a quilt to memorialize the groundbreaking athlete. The quilt display, which shows the names of other Brown and Black lives lost to the disease, is a call to action to disrupt systemic and social justice issues that impact health disparities.
